BIOGRAPHY

Who?

Terrell Mackey is a singer, songwriter, and a man of soul. Talented creative and charismatic, his innate musicality has forged his position in the music industry. He’s caught the attention of veteran music executive Vincent Herbert, signed with Grammy Award-winning Streamline/UMG and written for artists on major record labels, including Jordan Bratton, Kim Cesarion and Bridget Kelly.

Well-known for his freestyle talent, Mackey’s dynamic writing process allows him to adapt his style and produce captivating and original music on the spot, whether he’s writing solo or collaborating with contemporary producers and writers.

Early Years

For like many great creatives, his life had it’s share of dissonance. Growing up in North Philadelphia, Mackey was no stranger to crime and violence. Instead of falling victim to the daily tragedies that plagued his neighborhood, his passion drove him to beat the ‘young, black & dead before 21’ statistics and build his career in music.

Well-known for his freestyle talent, Mackey’s dynamic writing process allows him to adapt his style and produce captivating and original music on the spot, whether he’s writing solo or collaborating with contemporary producers and writers.

New York State of Mind

Finding himself in New York City, home to the kind of opportunities that Philadelphia couldn’t offer, he quickly began to attract the attention of the music industry. Yet, the excitement of a new city couldn’t stop him from being homesick and from missing what he’d known. And so it would become that much of what he has to say in his music is a reflection of who he is, where he’s been and those he’s known.

Inspiration

Drawing inspiration form artists such as James Brown, Michael Jackson and Kendrick Lamar, and his own experiences in life, his raw and honest authenticity gives power to his writing as he lends his voice to the issues that most aren’t speaking of.

Music

Because for Mackey, it’s this ability to express and the communicate through sound and music that gives purpose to his life, and speak for those who aren’t being heard. To him, most important is being true to what is real in this world, to stay humble and wise, and to remember that no matter what we look like or where we are from we all bleed the same.
